The US Firm's Driverless Cabs Set to Arrive London Streets in 2026.
The US-based enterprise Waymo has declared that its autonomous taxis will be available for booking on London's thoroughfares starting next year.

London will become the first European city to introduce an self-driving taxi service, akin to those already operational in San Francisco and several American urban centers using Waymo's innovative technology.

Waymo confirmed that its cars are presently en route to London and will start navigating on the city's streets in the coming weeks with trained human specialists behind the wheel.
Waymo – initially established as a derivative from the tech giant's autonomous vehicle program and part of the larger corporate umbrella – explained it would expand activities and partner with the Department for Transport and the city's mobility organization to secure the essential licenses to provide fully autonomous trips by 2026.

Additional organizations, including Uber and the UK-based tech company Wayve, have likewise announced their own strategies to trial self-driving taxis in the city next year.
This is in response to the British government announcing it would speed up guidelines enabling public trials to take place before regulation allowing autonomous cars is enacted in full.

Waymo already has ties to the UK after launching its pioneering European technical center in Oxford in 2019.
The company is also starting services in Tokyo using JLR EVs, marking its second current project beyond the US.

Waymo launched its autonomous taxis in 2020 and now claims it has carried more than 10 million customers in the United States.
