Doris Secures Spot in Irish Team While McCarthy Misses Out
Newly reappointed head coach Andy Farrell has selected captain Doris in his Ireland roster for the fall Tests, however lock McCarthy is absent.
The captain, who has not played since undergoing shoulder surgery in the start of May, recently returned to provincial training, but it remains unclear whether he will be fit to face the All Blacks in Chicago on 1 November.
Second row Joe McCarthy, however, did not make the cut after not recovering from the foot injury suffered during the opening British and Irish Lions Test against Australia in the summer.
Northern province forward Cormac Izuchukwu and southern province wing Nash are also absent due to fitness concerns, while full-back Keenan was previously excluded after having a hip operation following the summer tour.
Leinster forward Paddy McCarthy - the brother of Joe - is the only uncapped member in the 34-man group, however the Irish Rugby Football Union says uncapped provincial duo Edogbo and Brian Gleeson and previously capped western province winger Shayne Bolton will head to Chicago as "backup".
After facing the New Zealand at Soldier Field in a rematch of their previous meeting, Ireland host the Brave Blossoms, Australia and world title holders South Africa in the Irish capital.
"There's an exciting look to the panel and there's an opportunity for the more experienced players and for the newcomers on the recent tour to the Lelos and Portugal," said Farrell, back to Ireland duty after taking a sabbatical to lead the British and Irish Lions to the southern hemisphere.
In a mostly familiar-looking squad, the Dublin club's Sam Prendergast and Munster's Jack Crowley will again compete for the starting fly-half spot. Henshaw, Aki, Garry Ringrose and Stuart McCloskey represent an experienced cohort of centre options. Jamie Osborne is another option in the centres, but the youngster is additionally a frontrunner to cover for the full-back at number 15.
